About the MCWASPXVII LOGO

The logo for MCWASPXVII is an example of directional solidification of dendrites, analogous to a casting process, where the conference title is being treated as a wall where solidification cannot occur. This simulation uses the numerical code TESA (ThermoElectric Solidification Algorithm), a validated and highly parallelised multi-physics code that has been developed over many years. TESA can model microstructure solidification with other physical phenomena such as fluid flow and electromagnetism at lengths that can reach the component scale using High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters. During the simulation, the complex domain allows us to observe interesting microstructure solidification phenomena such as dendritic competition between differently oriented grains and rapid growth into undercooled pockets of solute.

If you are interested in talking to us about using TESA (or our other modelling capabilities), please contact us as we’d love to chat – virtually, or ideally in person at MCWASPXVII!
