Local

The address of the conference venue is:
Norton Park Hotel, Spa & Manor House, Winchester, SO21 3NB

Winchester is easy to reach from London (or other cities in the South of England), with the conference venue itself only being a short drive into the countryside north from the city of Winchester proper. Individual circumstances will differ depending on where you are travelling from, but for many people we expect that the easiest journey would be to get the train from your point of origin to Winchester station and then arrange a driving transfer (Taxi / Shuttle bus) for the short journey to the conference venue.

Below we have provided some details that may be useful for planning your trip (all distances are measured to the conference venue). If you have any questions or concerns about your travel arrangements, please don’t hesitate to email us at mcwasp@greenwich.ac.uk.

International airports (closest to the conference venue):

  • Southampton International – 23 miles.
  • Bournemouth international – 47 miles.
  • London Heathrow – 48 miles.
  • London Gatwick – 72 miles.

Trains:

  • Winchester Station, 8 miles.

Taxis:

  • Local taxi services.
  • Uber services are available.

Local Bus Service:

  • The #75 bus from ‘City Road’ to ‘Lower Bullington Turn’ is relatively close to the station and venue.
  • However, this route does involve approximately a mile of walking and we would expect this transfer to take nearly an hour in total. Consequently, we would generally not recommend it as a convenient option.

Parking:

  • If you intend on driving your own vehicle, there are ample free parking spaces at the venue that you can use for the duration of your stay.

Shuttle bus:

  • Subject to the level of interest from attendees, on the day of arrival there is planned to be a shuttle bus operating regularly between Winchester Station and Norton Park Hotel, Spa & Manor House. Further details will be provided closer to the conference date.

International

We are hoping to welcome many colleagues from all across the world to MCWASPXVII, but it is important for people attending from outside of the UK to be familiar with the requirements for visiting the country.

We would recommend any international attendee to familliarise themselves with the UK government advice on travelling to the UK (and also your local government’s guidance for travelling to the UK).

You should also be aware that except in rare circumstances, you will almost certainly need to apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) or VISA depending on your country of origin. Please check this page to see what form of travel authorisation you require to enter the UK.

Applying for an ETA is relatively straightforward and should only take a few days to be approved (there is also a £16 charge for the application), however a VISA is a much more significant application that can take much longer to process, and in some cases may require a letter of invitation from us at the University of Greenwich as the host institution for the conference.

If you require a VISA we would recommend starting the VISA application process as soon as possible, and if you require an invitation letter, even if you have not yet registered, please contact us now at mcwasp@greenwich.ac.uk with your requirements so we can begin the process from our side.
